LONG before we took over the RED COTTAGE, it had been a garage, a boat-building shop, a seasonal restaurant, and a variety store. When we moved in (1981), business was a combination counter service and small grocery store, still selling penny candy. The family dining room table was immediately moved into the "STORE". THINGS changed, however. Gradually groceries were phased out, more tables appeared, and soon we grew to a 49-seat restaurant. BUT some things never change. Many times we thought of "fancying-up" the place, but our customers insisted that what they loved was the old-fashioned comfort of the diner atmosphere.
