The Cliffside Beach Club, originally named Conrad's Beach, opened in 1904. The “beach business” saw its heyday in the 1920's; on warm sunny days the pavilion was filled with members elegantly dressed in silk suits and felt hats. In those early years, it was unthinkable to arrive at the beach in a bathing suit; over four hundred wooden changing rooms were used three times a day to accommodate the crowds.
