Artists of the Classical and Romantic past were masters of drama and expression and I use their paintings as a springboard for my own work. While the artists of those eras were primarily concerned with telling a story or realistically depicting a person, my “details” seek to connect with the emotions and senses of the modern viewer. In my versions, a religious painting is pared down, revealing a universal spiritual essence, or perhaps an erotic undercurrent. The riches and trappings of a Prince are stripped away, and we are rewarded with a glimpse of his soul.
