Whether you come to Provincetown by boat, auto, or plane, you can't miss the Pilgrim Monument.
It stands high on a hill, overlooking the town center. It is the symbol of Provincetown – its Eiffel Tower, its Statue of Liberty, its Big Ben or Mount Rushmore.
The Pilgrim Monument was built to commemorate the "first landing" of the Mayflower Pilgrims in Provincetown on November 21, 1620, and their signing of the Mayflower Compact here. Each year at Thanksgiving we celebrate that historic event with the Lighting of the Monument.
